this V12 was used in E32's, E38's, and E31's, and IIRC they all had the same intake setup. I don't know what its out of specifically, I don't even know the story behind it, I found it by accident looking up M106 stuff.

Ah, so maybe they just have just painted/coated the original intake (with what looks like... teflon?) and removed the covers.
This is what they look like stock in an E32, but you're right, closer inspect makes them seem like the intakes are the same, just slightly different dressings.
